Seiffener Cat Incense Holder

This kitten is one of the modern spherical incense figures from the Ore Mountains. As soon as the incense cone inside is lit, the smoke rises through the opening in its face, and the black and white little creature reveals its true colors. Striped fur, large eyes, a broad smile, and a small mouse in its paw: every detail is hand-painted onto the turned spherical body made of local wood. The pipe in the corner of its mouth gives the kitten the final playful touch.

The figure is crafted in the workshop of our Seiffen folk art cooperative, which has offered its line of spherical incense burners since 2003. The cooperative itself dates back to 1958, when 13 craftsmen joined forces in the spa town of Seiffen. A year later, the demonstration workshop opened its doors and continues to showcase the traditional woodturning and painting techniques of the Ore Mountains.
